Jatropha oil is extracted from the physic nut (Jatropha curcas). Jatropha can be cultivated even in dry savanna areas. Despite the low requirements of jatropha oil it produces: The Jatropha plant has an oil content of over 30% and beyond that a cetane number of 60 (rape has only about 54). This jatropha is one of the most effective technically useful vegetable oils in the world.
The cultivation of jatropha oil is particularly rewarding, not only for the
subsistence economy (oil production for own use), but also for resale on the
international market. However, the supply is very small. Especially with a
strong Jatropha-travelers of non-compliance exists in international trade.
